The Hare’s Corner – Seeking new ‘Plan for Nature’ advisors
Do you have a good general understanding of biodiversity and habitats needed to sustain it? Do you have hands-on experience in taking actions for nature? Are you passionate about helping people look after nature on their land?
Join The Hares Corner project as a ‘Plan for Nature’ advisor and empower our participating landowners to create more wildlife habitats on their land.
About The Hare’s Corner Project
The Hare’s Corner is an initiative of the Burrenbeo Trust and its aim is simply to help create more space for nature across Ireland (theharescorner.ie ). One way in which we do this is to offer a simple, bespoke ‘Plan for Nature’ to landowners, providing them with practical advice on how to encourage more biodiversity on their landholding.
Role and Responsibilities: As a ‘Plan for Nature’ advisor, you will:
- Attend an online info session as well as an in-person training day with The Hare’s Corner project scientist (in April 2026). A full set of guidelines, sample plans and other resources will be given at this time.
- Once assigned a site, walk the landholding with its landowner to assess the site’s existing habitats. Gauge the interests and capacity of the landowner and advise the landowner on how they could enhance nature on their land.
- Based on the visit, create a simple ‘Plan for Nature’ within 2 weeks of the visit, with practical recommendations on how the landowner can enhance nature on their site.
Qualifications:
This role will suit someone with good ecological and interpersonal skills, practical land management experience, and experience of working with people and nature. Candidates should have availability to work during mid-May to July 2026, though within this, work dates are very flexible. Candidates should be available to work in one or more of the following counties: Limerick, Sligo, Offaly, Carlow, Donegal, Monaghan, Louth, Wexford, Kilkenny and Kerry.
Remuneration:
Typically, a site visit and report writing will take no more than 1- 1.5 days for any one site. A set fee of €600 will be paid for each site visit and report (this includes travel expenses and VAT). Additional travel expenses may be paid in cases where the allocated site is more than 1 hour drive from the advisor’s location.
The first two plans will be quality-checked by our team and once approved, a minimum of 3 more sites will be allocated to each ‘Plan for Nature’ advisor. Further sites may be allocated based on demand and capacity of the advisor.
Why apply for this?
Being a Hare’s Corner Advisor is positive, purposeful and impactful work. It is highly flexible and offers opportunity to see new places and meet new people who are also interested in nature conservation. It may lead to additional income opportunities as a ‘certified’ Hare’s Corner Advisor as the project continues to expand.
